Microteaching II

Here is where you can comment on my Microteaching II lesson plan on Density. Thank you very much!

  1. Hey Tiffany,

Your lesson on density was great! The lesson was fun and engaging, but it also was very informative and you were professional. The hands-on learning experience that you provided to students was more than satisfactory, and I appreciated the way that you connected density to real-world experiences in our everyday lives. I will never look at common household products the same!

Reflecting back on the classroom environment, I noticed that the small podium was on the desk. Although we were a small group of only five students, I think that had there been more students in the room, the podium would have blocked them from seeing the products that you presented. By moving the podium, you would have been more visible to students.

I would like to commend you on your patience while we were having technical difficulties with the cameras. Although the camera shut off toward the end of your presentation, you handled the situation very professionally, and by "thinking on your feet", you were able to come up with the solution to present the ending of the lesson over again.

After seeing this lesson, I know that you will make a great teacher one day!

  2. Hey Tiffany,

You did a great job with the lesson. It was very hands on and informative. It was also a lot of fun for the students. One thing that could have been better was maybe giving the students a little more freedom. While we were doing the experiment it would have been better for you to only give small comments or help when we were lost. Even though it was fun having you work with us, some of the things in our discussion was covered in the explore. Overall, the lesson was great and you will make a great teacher.

  3. Hey Tiffany,

You did such a great job teaching your lesson on density! Your explore section was so fun and engaging. I really enjoyed playing with all of the materials and making predictions about what would happen when they were placed in the water. I especially liked the fact that you threw in a couple of objects that could either sink or float depending on how they were placed in. I thought that this was an incredibly smart idea because it was able to spark so much discussion.

One thing that you may want to change next time you do this lesson would be breaking students down into smaller groups. I feel as though this would allow for a more hands on experience for everyone involved. Though, this would have been difficult during your actual microteaching lesson given the fact that you only had five students in the room.

Overall this was a wonderful lesson, and I am confident that your students will love it if you decide to use it in the future.

    Have a great week!
    Jessica

  4. Hi Tiffany,

I thought your lesson was great. It was very well planned and set up with the large amount of materials you had to use. Obviously it would have been a bit easier to do everything if we were got to use an actual lab. I really think that you did a great job with making us think. You did not really tell us anything directly but you guided us towards the right way of thinking. I believe that the way you did this lesson was a very effective way for us to learn about density rather then just memorizing things. I like how you asked us questions before, after and during each experiment. I think that was a key part in how effective it was.
The only thing i might comment on is maybe in the future make sure that you have a couple of bottles where you had us identify the liquids at the end in case you have another student like me who decides to shake up the bottle and change the color of the substances. Other than that I think that it was a great lesson.
